The Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility is supported for both AX-Series and CX-Series storage systems. It lets you discover storage systems, set network parameters and, for AX-Series storage systems, create management user accounts for those storage systems. If the storage system is an AX150 ISCSI storage system, use the utility to set network parameters for the storage system's iSCSI data ports. You must initialize the storage system in order to register the server HBAs with the storage system and have access to the storage system's data.
Note In this document, the term AX-Series storage systems refers to both AX100 and AX150-Series storage systems.
Running the Storage System Initialization Utility

Setting iSCSI data port parameters (AX150-Series iSCSI storage systems only)
Uninitializing a storage system
Resetting initialization values

Before you start the initialization operation, make sure that
You know the following:
Static IP addresses for the storage system SPs (example, http://123.45.6.7, and 123.45.6.8)
Subnet mask
Default gateway address.
CX-Series only - names you will assign to the storage system SPs.
All HBAs and drivers are installed in the servers connected to the storage system.
All cabling is correct.
The server on which you installed the initialization utility and the storage system are connected to the same network subnet.
Note This is required for storage-system initialization only. Once you assign a IP address to the storage system, the server and storage system can be on different subnets.
The server and storage system are plugged into a standard ac power source and turned on.
The Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility lets you discover storage systems, set network parameters and create management user accounts (AX-Series only). You can run the utility from the server on which you install it or directly from the CD.
Note We recommend that you install the initialization utility on at least one server with network connectivity to the storage system.

| To start the Initialization wizard From the server Click Start > Programs > EMC > Navisphere > Navisphere Storage System Initialization Wizard From the CD From the main menu of the AX-Series Setup CD, click Run Utilities from the CD.
The wizard opens to the welcome screen. This screen lists the prerequisites for successfully using the wizard. Read the introductory text and click Next to begin the storage system discovery operation. The discovery operation scans the subnet for storage systems. During the discovery process, the discovery screen's graphic is animated. Once the discovery operation is complete, the wizard lists all uninitialized and initialized storage systems that it finds, using the storage system's serial number. You will find the serial number on the storage system in a location and format similar to the following (the letters preceding the serial number (ex. APM) may change).
The discovery operation finds AX-Series storage systems, running Navisphere Express, with connections to the server. -or-
Note If no storage systems were discovered, verify the cable connections to these storage systems.

2 | To initialize a storage system, select a storage system from the Uninitialized Systems list and click Next. Note You can view the current settings of an initialized storage system by selecting it from the Initialized Systems list and then clicking Next.
3 | In the Management Port Settings screen, set the following network parameters for the storage system 10/100 management ports:
| Storage Processor A or Storage Processor B IP Address/ Name | Sets the IP address and name (CX-Series only) for SP A and SP B. Name is user definable. | ||||||||
| Subnet Mask | Sets the subnet mask associated with the LAN (local area network) for SP A and SP B. | ||||||||
| Default Gateway | Sets the default gateway address used by the LAN for SP A and SP B. | ||||||||
4 | For AX100-Series storage systems
For AX150-Series storage systems
For CX-Series storage systems - View the configuration summary
| |||||||||
5 | For AX150-Series iSCSI storage systems only, set the following iSCSI data port parameters, where X is the storage system storage processor - A or B, and Y is the SP's iSCSI data port number - 0 or 1. Note For AX100-Series iSCSI storage systems, you must use Navisphere Express to set the iSCSI data port parameters.
| SP X Port Y IP Address | Sets the IP address for the iSCSI data port. | ||||||||
| SP X Port Y Subnet Mask | Sets the subnet mask for the iSCSI data port. | ||||||||
| SP X Port Y Direct Attach | Select Direct Attach if this port connects directly to the server and not through a LAN (local area network). This sets the port's gateway address to 0.0.0.0 and makes the gateway parameter unavailable for editing. | ||||||||
| SP X Port Y Gateway | Sets the gateway address for the iSCSI data port. | ||||||||
| Click Next to change the storage system's name and set the storage system's login credentials. | |||||||||
6 | For AX-Series (AX100 and AX150-Series) storage systems, in Storage System Name, enter a new name for the storage system.
7 | For AX-Series storage systems, enter the following login credentials for the storage system. Note Security Settings entries are available only for AX-Series storage systems. For CX-Series storage systems, use Navisphere Manager to create a domain and set domain security. CX-Series storage systems still display as uninitialized until you set domain security.
| User name | Sets a user name. A valid name must start with a letter, can contain only alphanumeric characters, cannot exceed 32 characters, and is case sensitive. | ||||||||
| Password | Sets the user password. A valid password can contain only alphanumeric characters, cannot exceed 32 characters, and is case sensitive. For example, mousetrap2 is a valid password. Do not enter MOUSETRAP2 by mistake. | ||||||||
| Confirm password | Re-enter your password for verification. | ||||||||
8 | Click Next to view the Configuration Confirmation screen. This screen summarizes the network settings selected for this storage system, and, for CX-Series storage systems, lets you change the name of an uninitialized storage system.
9 | If the settings are correct, click Finish. If the settings are not correct, click Back until you reach the screen where you can modify the settings, and then proceed through the wizard screens again. Note Once you click Finish, the storage system reboots and the SP Boot/Fault light on the back of each SP starts blinking. The reboot operation could take several minutes to complete. When it is completes, the SP Boot/Fault light on each SP stops blinking and remains off.

Note Applies to AX150-Series storage systems only.
In order to reset any of the storage system's initialization values - username, user password, IP address, subnet mask or gateway address, you must uninitialize the storage system before you reset
Important Each time you uninitialize the storage system, you must reset all security settings (username and password). The storage system retains its IP addresses, the subnet mask and the default gateway address.
To uninitialize the storage system and reset the values, do the following:
1 | Power down the storage system by pressing the power button located on the back panel of the storage system. Wait one minute before powering up again. |
2 | To restart the storage system, press and hold the power button (located on the back panel of the storage system) for 4 to 8 seconds, and then release it. |
3 | The storage system will proceed through three levels of start-up. You can differentiate between the levels by the flash rate of the Boot/Fault light located next to the reset button.
Once the start-up is complete, the storage system is uninitialized. Rerun the initialization utility to reset the initialization values. |
Note Applies to AX-Series storage systems only.

You can change the network parameters for a CX-Series storage system as many times as you want prior to adding the storage system to a domain and configuring domain security.
Important If you want to change the network parameters after configuring domain security, you must remove (destroy) the domain and the domain security (using Navisphere Manager), and then use the setup page to restart the management server software for both SPs. Open the setup page by entering the following URL in your web browser - SP IP Address/setup.
For example, 111.222.33.444/setup.
In order to access the data stored on the storage system, you must register the HBAs of any attached servers with the storage systems.
For AX-Series storage systems - Use the Navisphere Server Utility that ships on the same CD as the Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility.
For CX-Series storage systems - Reboot the server or use the Navisphere Server Utility.
Note Before running the Navisphere Server Utility, wait for the storage system to finish rebooting.
