1. | Note the following: · Disabling write cache affects storage system performance. · It may take a while for the cache to be disabled. You must wait for the cache to show as “Disabled” before proceeding. · If you are going to set the write cache to zero: a. Record the cache allocation so that you can reset write cache to the original allocation after the maintenance activity. b. You cannot set write cache to zero until the cache shows as “Disabled”. | P Done ? |
2. | Overview You will perform the following steps: · Disable the write cache in the Array Properties Cache tab. · If you are going to set the write cache to zero: when cache status has changed from “disabling” to “disabled”, zero the memory assigned to write cache in the Array Properties Memory tab. The memory cannot be changed to 0mb until cache has “disabled”. · Ensure that the cache has been completely “disabled”. Confirm that the cache is DISABLED (and ZEROED) by using Navisphere CLI to check cache status. Enter the following CLI command: | ? |
3. | Detailed Instructions · Right-click on array and select Properties. · Click on the Cache tab. · Uncheck the Write Cache, and click on Apply. · Confirm that you wish to continue with disabling write cache by clicking on Yes. · There is a warning that disabling cache make take some time. · Click on OK to continue. · Write cache will now show as disabled. | ? |
4. | If you are going to set the write cache to zero: a. Click on the Memory tab. b. Drag the Write Cache Memory slider all the way to the left to set the memory to zero, and click on Apply. c. Confirm that you want to set the size to zero by clicking on Yes. d. Click on OK to continue. | ? |
5. | Check that the cache has been completely “disabled” (and zeroed) by using Navisphere CLI to check the cache status. Enter the following CLI command: navicli –h <SP IP address> getcache CAUTION: Ensure that the write cache status for both SP A and SP B shows as Disabled and that the write cache size for both SP A and SP B shows as zero before starting the maintenance activity. | ? |
6. | After you have performed the maintenance activity, reset the cache to the previous setting (only if you set it to zero), and re-enable write cache. | ? |
